Walk Around The World for
Breast Cancer 2006

Walk Around The World (WATW) is a global Avon initiative designed to reinforce the company’s commitment to the breast cancer issue and bring together breast cancer survivors from many different countries. It was launched in 2005.

As part of this unique event, women with personal experience of breast cancer exchange a symbolic Global Connection Ribbon in a series of visits between countries. In 2006 Avon UK was twinned with the Czech Republic.

Our WATW event took place at the Breakthrough Toby Robins Breast Cancer Research Centre in London during Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October when Avon staff and Representatives were given a tour of the research facilities.

Guest of honour was Alena Tureckova from Prague who handed over the symbolic ribbon to the UK survivor Libby Bradley, who works at the Avon customer service centre in Corby. Both women spoke movingly of their breast cancer experience.

Libby travelled back to Prague with Alena to repeat the ribbon exchange during a breast cancer conference organised locally by Avon as their contribution to Walk Around The World.

Later in the month Libby represented the UK at a WATW event in New York where survivors from 30 different countries were honoured for their role in spreading the breast awareness message and sharing their personal experiences to help others.

“I was privileged to represent Avon UK  and the whole WATW experience reminded me I am not alone and there are so many people out there willing to do all they can to help,” said Libby. “Thank you to everyone involved in the Crusade as together I hope we can eventually find a cure.”
